Berkshire Youth Netball
Berkshire Academies Talent Development Ladder

Netball Satellites and Partnership
Academies have been running in Berkshire for the last few
years and we are now beginning to see the results from the Talent
Development Programme.
Satellite
Academies
The Satellites programme in Berkshire
has now been running for three years. Trial invitations are
sent out to all schools, Leagues and clubs within the county. The
trials are held in May/June. The school years targeted for the
trials are year 6, 7 & 8. Trials are held over two evenings,
with girls being selected at the first date to attend the second.
Over 300 girls could attend the initial trial date for 60 places in
the Academies. Selectors work from a criteria sheet, which is
produced by England Netball.
Selected players are put through to
the Berkshire Satellite Academies which run for two hours from
September through to March fortnightly during term
time. The three academy venues have been spaced out
across Berkshire to make it easier for players to access the
opportunity. The sites include Ranelagh School in Bracknell on
Thursday evenings, Altwood School in Maidenhead on Friday evenings,
and Park House School in Newbury on Friday evenings.
Partnership
Academies

The Partnership Academy has been
running for two years. This is for Under 16's who reach the high
criteria set by England Netball Talent Scouts.
Invitations are sent to Clubs
and Level 2 Coaches who are involved with young players. This year
(07/08) the South Netball Head Scout Sue Baldwin assisted in the
selection along with two others from the South and two independent
Coaches from Berkshire.
The Berkshire Partnership Academy is
in its second year, and runs for two hours fortnightly term time
only at Ranelagh School in Bracknell on Thursday. This programme
runs from September through to March.
In these programme girls work very
hard to improve their netball skills and learn how to train. All
players keep records in a logbook of all skill work achieved at the
Academies, Club, School and in their own time.
Talent Scouts can visit any of these
programmes to view the girls. A Regional Coach will also be
overseeing the Academy Coaches to assess the
programme.
Netball Talent
League
Four girls who attended the Berkshire
Academies have been selected for squads in the new National Netball
Talent League. The Netball Talent League has been created in
association with England Netball's nine regions and the eight
franchises participating in the Netball Super League to create a
competitive environment in which young netballers aged 14 - 19
can experience high pressure games on a weekly basis throughout the
year. England's most promising netballers will have an opportunity
to show their skills and impress the national selectors on route to
the senior games with the creation of this new elite youth
competition.

The four girls who attended the
Berkshire Academies are Natalie Brookes, Sophia Candappa, Kirsty
Rusher and Francesca John. Natalie and Sophia have been selected to
play in the Mavericks squad. Kirsty and Francesca in the
Hurricanes. Sophie Cox from Finchampstead Netball Club has been
selected for the South Squad.
