PE and Sport Strategy for Young People

PESSYP

The PE & Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP) often referred to as the 5 Hour Offer is now in place.  By 2011 the ambition outlined in the Strategy is to offer all children at least 5 hours of sport every week, comprising:
  • At least 2 hours high quality PE in the curriculum (5-16 year olds)
  • The opportunity for at least a further 3 hours sport beyond the school day delivered by a range of school, community and club providers (5-19 yr olds)
To support this an additional £100m (over 3 years) has been secured for:
  • The addition of FE Sports Co-ordinators linked to School Sport Partnerships
  • The completion of the roll out of Competition Managers linked to School Sport Partnerships
  • Top up grants for School Sport Partnerships to pay Coaches
  • Multi sport clubs for children with special needs linked to School Sport Partnerships
  • Funding for Sports Unlimited for semi-sporty young people
  • National School Sport Week w/c 29 June 2009

The national strategy is being delivered through 10 interlinked work-strands, for more information on any section please click on the title.
