NHS Berkshire West
NHS Berkshire West covers a large area including Newbury, Reading and Wokingham. They provide health services in the community, at home and in hospitals.
It is thier job to spend public money on helping you stay healthy, making sure you can see a GP or other primary healthcare professional or get hospital care when you need it.
They aim to make a difference to the health and well-being of our local population and one of their priorities is involving and engaging patients.
In Berkshire West there are 55 GP surgeries, 68 NHS dental practices, 67 pharmacies and 42 opticians. They have an annual budget of £625m and cover a population of over 500,000.
NHS Berkshire East
Berkshire East Primary Care Trust (BE PCT) is responsible for the primary care services you receive in Ascot, Bracknell, Maidenhead, Slough, Windsor and surrounding areas. It is their job to:
- Assess the health needs of our local population and develop an insight into local healthcare needs
- Commission the right services (from GP practices, hospitals and dentists for example) to meet these needs, and to ensure these services can be accessed by everyone who needs them
- Make sure that the organisations providing these services, including social care organisations, are working together effectively
- Improve the overall health of your local community
- Listen to your views on your health services and act on them.
NHS Berkshire East oversees the primary care services delivered by
- 53 GP practices and 226 GPs
- 69 dental practices
- 36 optometry practices
- 74 pharmacists
- 4 Community sites – St Mark’s (Maidenhead), Upton (Slough), King Edward VII (Windsor) and Skimped Hill (Bracknell)
Primary Care Trusts are now at the centre of the NHS and control 80% of the total NHS budget. NHS Berkshire East is responsible for a population of approximately 410,000 and covers the unitary areas of Bracknell Forest, Slough and and the Royal Borough of Maidenhead and Windsor. Being a local organisation means they are in the best position to understand the needs of the local community.
They have offices in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead and three community hospitals. King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor has a day hospital for the elderly and offers a range of outpatient services. St Mark's Hospital in Maidenhead also offers a range of outpatient services and Upton Hospital, Slough offers a range of outpatient clinics.
